Sky 1 has commissioned Oxford Scientific Films and GroupM Entertainment to produce a lively new format, Oh My Dog! (working title/WT).
Britain is a dog-loving nation, and this series reveals extraordinary facts which will make even the most devoted dog lovers see their pets in a whole new light. Oh My Dog! (WT) (6 x 60’) will prove that dogs, like humans, have distinct personalities and incredible levels of intelligence – in fact, they could even be described as geniuses. Communication, empathy, memory and reasoning will all be explored through a series of auditions, experiments and challenges.
A nationwide search for dogs from rescue centres will find some of Britain’s most extraordinary canine characters bursting with potential. The show will help the animals reveal their amazing hidden abilities, with the support of scientists, experts and trainers.
Viewers will be encouraged to join in and try some of the tests at home, unlocking their own dog’s extraordinary abilities.
Caroline Hawkins, Creative Director, Oxford Scientific Films said: “We’re thrilled to embark on this exciting and ambitious project, bringing together the world’s top experts in dog cognition and training with some of the smartest canines from Britain’s rescue centres. Dogs have real value and proven ability, and this show will push our perspective to a new level.”
Tony Moulsdale, Head of Programming, GroupM Entertainment said: “Oh My Dog! (WT) tackles the subject of canine intelligence in a refreshingly different way. We were immediately drawn to it, not least because it was one of the most carefully thought through proposals we’ve seen. It delivers hard science with a very light touch as it seeks to understand how a dog’s mind works. Whether it’s to do with reasoning, memory, empathy or communication, the results will make compelling viewing.”
Siobhan Mulholland, Commissioning Editor, Factual added: “This is genuinely ground breaking factual television. It features the latest animal training techniques and expert insights into canine behaviour to deliver real challenges for the animals featured, in a way never seen before on TV. It’s a first for British TV and adds to Sky 1’s range of factual output for all the family.”
The series will be executive produced by Caroline Hawkins for Oxford Scientific Films and Melanie Darlaston for GroupM Entertainment. The series producer for Oxford Scientific Films is Daniel Barry. The series is commissioned by Siobhan Mulholland.
The air date is to be confirmed.
