In this series Jimmy Doherty goes on a global journey to find out just why food prices have been rising. Taking some weekly shop essentials, he discovers that the cost of food reflects some of the big challenges of the 21st century; from the rise of Asia, to the power of the financial markets and from growing population to volatile weather.  Over the past six years the price of an average food basket has gone up by 25%. In the UK we import half of our food, which makes us extremely vulnerable to volatile prices.
